Trials of a Saint Louis Mixshow Freak and Computer Geek

Club Viva, DJ Epic, Something New

Posted by on Apr 4, 2014

DJ Epic and I have developed a new DJ night at Club Viva in the Central West end.  SubVersion Wednesdays at club Viva represent an exciting opportunity to do away with the mainstream nonsense being played on commercial radio, and to introduce new and interesting sub-genres of dance, electronic, and hip-hop music.  Lately, I have been following a lot of DJ’s such as Flosstradamus, Bro Safari and UFO, Yellow Claw, Diplo, Trippy Turtle, Cashmere Cat, Mayhem and Antiserum, Styles and Complete, Valentino Kahn, just to name a bunch.  I have been inspired by the stuff these guys play, and it’s highly energizing and intense music that I want to share with the St. Louis area.

To do that, we needed the right spot.  I couldn’t see doing this in some place with a sub-par sound system, and Viva’s sound system is top-notch.  When I took Epic down there and introduced him to the clubs owner, he gave us a little demo, and Epic’s eyes were wide at the power, frequency response, and numerous TV screens all with HD distribution.  This guy has his stuff together.

It also helps that their bar is also fantastic.  They even carry Marco Negri Moscato D’Asti.  I know a lot of folks just recently got hip to Moscato because some folks started talking about it in hip-hop, but there is no comparison between a “barefoot” or even a “freaky” moscato compared to Marco.  Also, about 4-5 years ago, I had a birthday party there, and they got this cocktail there called a “Latin Kiss” that my wife STILL hasn’t shut up about.  If you want, you can also get a fresh Mojito or a Cuba Libre made with real fresh ingredients, not any of that mixer crap.

We got some guests lined up for our opening night, but you can be one too.  There is a five dollar cover charge, but you can still sign up via the subversion even page and be our guest free of charge for the kickoff.  We hope to see you there, It’s gonna be a great night.  the fun begins on April 9, 2014.
